Presidents Message

The Vancouver Mainland Football League works to foster and promote Minor Football throughout the Lower Mainland for youths in the community from ages 6 – 18 years. The emphasis is on participation, through a structured program, with certified coaching staffs in order to provide youth the opportunity to play contact football to the level of their capabilities while ensuring a safe, fun and competitive environment.

Our League consists of twelve Lower Mainland associations, three Valley associations and four Vancouver Island associations with over 2500 active players, 400 cheerleaders and approximately 500 volunteers and officials.

Our guiding principles ensure an educational process for the learning and development of team concepts, community spirit and good sportsmanship are entrenched in our program.

The VMFL is a member of BC Community Football Association and Football BC providing Provincial Championships at every level.

If you have a desire to learn the game of football, learn the fundamentals of the game and enjoy recreational sport then the VMFL can provide you the opportunity.

Gord Johnson:

Previous to his appointment as President, Gord Johnson held the position of League Commissioner for sevens years going back to 2003.  Starting off as a player in his younger days Gord got involved with coaching with Langley Minor back in 1993 where he held positions of Head Coach and Assistant Coach from through to Bantam over a fourteen year history.

As well Gord became a director in Langley football in 1995 before taking the role of Vice President a few years later.  In 2001 Gord held the position of President until four years later in 2005.  He then switched some of his time over to Junior Football where he became involved with the Abbotsford Airforce team including Present in 2006 and 2007.  The following year Gord joined the Vancouver Island Raiders Junior club where he currently holds the Vice President position.

Married for 23 years to Helen, they have two kids, one currently playing for the Simon Fraser University football team while the other volunteers in the football community.
